Metallurgical biocarbon is a proven and immediate solution for decarbonising heavy industries in Quebec.
This locally produced source of energy will reduce the dependence on fossil fuel imports.

Biocarbon is produced through pyrolysis, a mature process that uses biomass to create
sustainable, circular carbon-based products.

In ecological terms, biomass refers to any type of organic matter. When it comes to energy, biomass is any organic matter that can be used to generate energy, such as wood, forest residues, and plant materials. Biomass-based energy production is made possible by the energy of the sun, which is absorbed by trees and plants through photosynthesis and then released when organic matter is burned or decomposes.

The Thurso plant will initially source biomass from local suppliers within a 200 km radius.

At Évolys, most of the supply comes from logging residues, wood chips, and other existing sources of wood fibre (pulp-grade logs, sawdust, and bark, including mixed maple and birch species). Selective, sustainable logging in local forests will provide another source of biomass, in line with the Chief Forester’s advice and in support of sound forest management.

Aymium is a market leader in the development and production of advanced biocarbon products from renewable feedstocks. Its products are designed to be compatible with existing equipment and operating processes, serve as immediate replacements for fossil fuel inputs, and deliver benefits in terms of both performance and the environment.

Aymium’s bioproducts are made from sustainably sourced biomass (reclaimed and unusable wood). They are renewable and carbon neutral and replace high-emission fossil fuels such as coal and coke.
